Albert II marks three years of Monaco-Dolceacqua twinning

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

Prince Albert II joined delegates from the Italian town of Dolceacqua at the Jardin Exotique to mark three years of their twinning agreement.

Prince Albert II welcomed representatives from Dolceacqua, the Ligurian town twinned with Monaco, to a ceremony on Tuesday 3 November held at the recently renovated Jardin Exotique. The gathering marked three years since the two municipalities formalised their twinning agreement, a partnership officials describe as rooted in more than five centuries of shared history between the two communities.

The historic ties between Monaco and Dolceacqua trace back through the Grimaldi family's long-standing connections to the Italian town, giving the modern twinning arrangement a depth beyond typical civic partnerships. Delegates from Dolceacqua travelled to the Principality for the occasion, with the newly reopened Exotic Gardens providing the backdrop for the anniversary gathering.

For Monaco residents, the event is a reminder of the Principality's network of twinning relationships that extend beyond ceremonial gestures, often underpinning cultural exchanges, school partnerships and local tourism links with partner towns. The choice of the Jardin Exotique, reopened after extensive renovation work, also gave the gathering added significance as one of the first official events held at the site since its return to public use.
