A Sqadra brings young Monaco volunteers into civic life

Around thirty volunteers aged 12 to 21 are now active under the Mairie's A Sqadra programme, which grew from a junior civic project conceived by local schoolchildren.
A Sqadra, the Mairie de Monaco's youth volunteering scheme, has grown from a classroom idea into a working civic force of around thirty young people. Originally proposed by collège students through the Projet Communal Junior initiative, the programme now draws participants aged between 12 and 21 who give their time to support community life across the Principality.
The scheme reflects a deliberate effort by the Mairie to channel adolescent energy into structured public service rather than passive citizenship. Volunteers take part in municipal events, community support activities and local initiatives, gaining hands-on experience of how the Principality functions at neighbourhood level.
For Monaco's resident families, A Sqadra represents something relatively rare: a formal pathway for young Monégasques and residents to contribute to the life of the commune before they reach adulthood. With the programme already established and expanding, the Mairie appears committed to making youth volunteering a lasting feature of civic identity in the Principality.
