21st Palermo-Monte-Carlo draws 44 crews and record bid

By Zak Jackson, MonacoViews Editorial

The 21st edition of the offshore race sets off Tuesday, with 44 crews from around the world competing for line honours and a course record.

The Palermo-Monte-Carlo race gets under way on Tuesday with one of its strongest international fields to date, drawing 44 crews including around twenty from outside Monaco and Italy. The race concludes Sunday, giving competitors a tight offshore window across the Western Mediterranean.

Two maxi yachts enter as joint favourites and are expected to mount a serious challenge on the existing course record, adding an extra layer of attention to an edition that has grown steadily in reputation since its debut. The arrival finish at Port Hercule makes this one of the few offshore races that concludes directly in the heart of the Principality.

For residents and those with boats in the port, arrivals are expected from Friday onwards, with the leading maxis likely to come in over the weekend. Port Hercule's outer harbour will be the place to watch proceedings unfold.
