The Yacht Club de Monaco is one of the most prestigious sailing clubs in the Mediterranean, and occupies a position of exceptional prestige within the Principality. Founded in 1953 by Prince Rainier III, the club has operated from its current address on the Monaco waterfront since 1966. In 2014 it moved into a striking modern clubhouse on Quai Louis II, designed by the renowned architect Norman Foster, which has become one of the most admired contemporary buildings in the Principality. HSH Prince Albert II, who became club president in April 1984, has guided the YCM through a remarkable period of expansion, introducing major racing events and establishing it as a global ambassador for sustainable yachting. The club's signature events include the Primo Cup, now one of the largest winter monotype gatherings in the Mediterranean, and Monaco Classic Week, a biennial celebration of heritage yachting first launched in 1994 which draws classic sailing boats and vintage motor yachts from across Europe. The club's own flagship, Tuiga, was acquired in 1995 and takes part in classic racing events worldwide. The La Belle Classe Academy offers sailing instruction accredited by the Royal Yachting Association, and the club's La Belle Classe sustainability label promotes responsible practices across the yachting community.
