Le Bar Americain at Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo is one of the most storied cocktail bars in the world, a timeless room that has been at the centre of Monaco's social life since the 1930s. Wood panelling, velvet seating, leather armchairs worn to a fine patina, and warmly lit walls adorned with photographs of legendary former guests all contribute to an atmosphere of effortless glamour tinged with jazz-club intimacy. Table 34 is where Frank Sinatra held court; Josephine Baker performed here for a private party held by the Prince de Polignac; Lady Gaga improvised a memorable musical interlude for fellow guests; and Edith Piaf, Romy Schneider, Charlie Chaplin, and Cary Grant are among those whose images look down from the walls. Live music plays every evening -- one of only a handful of hotel bars in the world to maintain this tradition -- with programming spanning jazz, swing, blues, soul, and vocal standards.
